  • A guide to Tennis Betting

    When you bet on a soccer match there are obviously the cases when the draw is not possible too - for example the Champions League finals. But nobody for sure has not heard about the draw result in tennis.

    The tennis sport is especially exceptional from the betting point of view. While betting on this sport you should be extremely careful about the bookmaker's terms and statutes. There are obviously differences in betting on such different sports like tennis and basketball.

    Online tennis betting is really great fun. You can make a lot of money betting on tennis if you know what you are doing.

    All the big games are televised and it's an exiting and action packed sport making tennis ideal for betting online from home.

    Starting in January with the Australian Open, there are four major Grand Slam tournaments, the French Open in May, Wimbledon in June and the US Open in August.

    Wimbledon is the most prestigious tournament and the only one of the Grand Slams to be played on grass, a surface some critics claim favours big servers. The US Open is arguably the most competitive, played on a hard court to allow an even playing field.

    In addition there are countless other major professional tennis tournaments to bet on throughout the year.

    Sports arbitraging is the only way to make sure a specific bet wins. How so? We'll get to that.

    Sports Arbitrage Introduction

    Bookmakers don't always use the same odds for the same matches. In fact they rarely use the same odds as other bookmakers. We're going to focus on betting on tennis in this article, but you can use the sports arbitrage betting system for any sport you like.

    Arbitraging has been known to man for a long time. Banks have done it with the difference in currency for a very long time. First let's look at what would happen if we'd cover both outcomes at the same bookmaker (in this case Bet365).

    We place $100 on Federer at odds of 1.40 and $48.78 on Djokovic at odds of 2.87 (explaining why I choose these different sizes of bets in a minute). Whenever this yields a result lower than 1, you'll be able to place an arbitrage bet. As an example let's look at the bet above:

    How so? We'll get to that.

    Sports Arbitrage Introduction

    For instance let's look at the upcoming match with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer:

    Bet365 odds: Novak Djokovic 2.87 and Roger Federer 1.40
    Williamhill odds: Novak Djokovic 2.75 and Roger Federer 1.40

    Banks have done it with the difference in currency for a very long time. The act of sports arbitraging is relatively new. Can we turn this around? Of course we can. We simply place the different bets at two different bookmakers. Let's have a look at another bookmaker.

    You could even place $1000 on Federer and $557.49 on Djokovic for a guaranteed $42.51 profit. It might not seem as much, but if you only placed a few of these bets a day, you could easily quite your day time job.

    s2 = s1 * o1 / o2; on outcome two.

    Let's look at our example again. Sports Arbitrage - Tennis Betting Tips, Difference Between Basketball Betting and Tennis Betting, The Art of Outright Tennis Betting - Lesson 1 - The Draw,

    Clearly you can then apply further filters - and we suggest you do - which we will cover in subsequent articles but this analysis of the draw will give you a solid foundation upon which to begin to select your outright bet.

    What it will also do is make you look beyond the obvious market leaders, in-form or seeded players who you are familiar with or would consider to be your 'favourites'. By approaching the draw in a dispassionate and studious manner you will create a more consistent betting style and one which will produce a uniform level of return.

    Example: Elena Dementieva (Sydney 2010) WON 7/1

    The Russian's head-to-head record against her potential opponents was Schiavone R1 (5:4 but won last 2), Hantuchova R2 (10:3), Safina QF (5:5 but won last 3) and Azarenka SF (2:1). This made her a solid each-way bet to make the final... when a profit would be guaranteed. And, as it happened, she also beat Serena Williams in the final to land the title! So with regards to Outright Tennis Betting: Lesson 1 never bet before the draw is made and, even then, take your time to study the field individually and as a whole.

    Coming Soon: Lesson 2 - The Odds

    Sports arbitraging is the only way to make sure a specific bet wins. Sports arbitraging is the act of exploiting the difference in odds at the different bookmakers. Bookmakers don't always use the same odds for the same matches. In fact they rarely use the same odds as other bookmakers. For instance let's look at the upcoming match with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer:

    Whenever this yields a result lower than 1, you'll be able to place an arbitrage bet. As an example let's look at the bet above:

    1.60(power -1) + 2.87(power -1) = 0.9734. Thus we can place an arbitrage bet.

    Now let's determine the size of the bets we want to place on the specific tennis matches. This is done with a simple formula. If you wish to place a stake of s1 on outcome 1, you need to place:

    s2 = s1 * o1 / o2; on outcome two.

    Let's look at our example again. We place $100 on outcome 1 at odds of 1.60. While betting on this sport you should be extremely careful about the bookmaker's terms and statutes. There are abnormal terminations of the tennis matches which happens often like scratches and other. One bookie may acknowledge the result and some other may not. That is the problem for especially those players which are betting using the sure bets system also called betting arbitrage system.

    While betting on tennis you are not afraid of the "home" and "away" odds differences. Every tennis player is usually "away" and fun support is not as important as it use to be in other sports (especially soccer in Europe). The result of the tennis match depends on the disposition of one person mostly while in basketball there are few person in the particular team which are responsible for the team disposition.

    There are obviously differences in betting on such different sports like tennis and basketball.
